The Challenge
The Dispatch is a popular digital news platform in the US. Working alongside the Code Co who developed the site we we worked with The Dispatch to update a tired logo to use on their beautiful and functional new site. After much back and forth and many many changes the Board decide to keep a logo version that was so similar to the original that I won’t be showcasing that here. Instead I will focus on the interesting challenge we had for the website navigation.

The Dispatch was unique in that they wrote most of their content in the form of Newsletters. On top of this they had sections of the website which were dedicated to certain topics. They also wanted to filter the content using categories and also had podcasts that they wanted to host on the site. What a challenge!
The Solution
To tackle to content navigation I came up with a really cool mega menu to organise the complex content, that used horizontal menu items to orient the user and to filter the content. The homepage used different sections to highlight certain topics that were trending that week as well as a three column layout which allowed for shortcut and quick content areas to the right.

Another important intention for the site was to increase subscribers. The revenue for the business relied heavily on users subscribing to the paid content. We placed call to actions across the site to drive conversions to good effect.
Because we were working with an external development team and the volume of content was huge, we wanted to make the build very modular and easy to execute. I worked out a system of content blocks and a style guide which could be rolled out across the site.
